Admissions to Sherborne School
The majority of pupils join Sherborne at the start of year 9 (aged 13 rising 14), although a small number will be admitted at the start of year 10 and a further group for the beginning of the Sixth Form course in year 12. Entry to The School in the middle of an academic year is not usually possible.
Some pupils will be registered for Sherborne from a very early age, others leave it until closer to the pupil's actual year of enrolment. A waiting list will often operate for one or two years before enrolment and so it is advisable to make arrangements before this. There are eight houses at Sherborne and early visits and registration will make it more likely that families will be able to express a preference for a particular house.
For year 9 entry, pupils will either sit Common Entrance in the summer term of year 8 or our own Scholarship Exams in the Easter term of the same year. For pupils who have not been in the UK prep school system other entrance exams are available to be taken by arrangement.
For Lower Sixth Form entry there is also a scholarship as well as non-scholarship route available.
