Boarding at Sherborne encapsulates the essence of our rounded approach. Boys are given the space to be individuals, to explore interests and to fly with new ideas, while simultaneously learning to live in a close community that requires them to respect difference in others. Arrogance has no place at Sherborne.

To get the best boarding experience, we believe that full 24/7 boarding should mean just that. There are eight boarding houses in all and each is as full at weekends as during the school week. Each has its own personality, but all are defined by the excellent pastoral care provided by the housemasters, their wives, the tutors and matrons. At Sherborne, our housemasters understand the importance of easy lines of communication between House and parent.

Evening and weekend activities, both within and outside the House, give boys a different and vital form of stimulus, allowing them to unwind and to grow in a safe and trusting atmosphere. True friendships and support systems are forged that often remain strong for the rest of their lives.

Finally, a boy’s House is a source of unity. One only has to see boys of all ages come together as a House to perform in sport, music, or drama, to see how strong the House spirit can be.
