Combined Cadet Force

Sherborne enjoys excellent links with the CCF, membership of which is voluntary. Boys may opt to join at the beginning of the Fourth Form for three terms. For the first term all new recruits undergo basic training in the recruit company, and then join one of the three forces: Royal Navy, Royal Marines or Army. If after three terms boys decide to remain in CCF they will continue onto the leadership course which can also be considered as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

Training takes place on Wednesdays. It is balanced between military skills and adventurous training activities and is always active and varied. There are termly Field Days which can involve visits to Regular units, tactical exercises, canoeing, sailing and hill walking.

During the Easter holidays there may be adventurous training in the Lake District or Snowdonia and in the summer holidays, a Contingent Camp. Throughout all holidays there are various courses run including leadership, military skills, power boating, motor vehicle maintenance and rock climbing.

Teams from the CCF enter the Dorset Challenge, the South West Regatta, the Pringle trophy, the Ten Tors Challenge on Dartmoor and participate at Bisley.
