'Les Mis' School Musical 2007
Victor Hugo’s epic tale of love and hope, redemption and despair, now translated into the world’s best known musical, was performed in the Big School Room this December. A joint production with Sherborne Girls and Leweston, it was a huge success with great performances across the board.
Particular mention should go to Jamie Excell (U6e) as Jean Valjean, Theo Jenkins (U6m) as Javert, Oliver Longland (L6e) as Marius and Charlette Trepass as Cosette. They gave superb perfomances that thrilled everyone in the audience. Not a dry eye in the house!
We have had many letters of congratulation from those watching but two best sum up the general feeling:
“It was marvellous and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of seeing such talented pupils excel through their singing and acting abilities. All those involved in providing such stunning theatre should be commended for this marvellous spectacle…..” and “Your production of Les Misérables was memorable and clearly reflected the dedicated work that must have been put in over many rehearsals. In a way, the brilliant acting and presentation has done much to renew my faith in today’s younger generation and the benefits of private education. Thank you.”
The play was directed by Mark Waldron ably supported by Director of Music, James Henderson, and Producer Judy Thurman. Special thanks should also go to Margaret Cracknell, Jim Donnelly and Emma Robinson for their incredible dedication from day one.
“Time after time Sherborne Schools keep coming up with superb theatrical productions and Les Misérables has to be one of the best yet”, says Headmaster Simon Eliot. “I would like to offer my congratulations and thanks to all those involved – you will be a hard act to follow.”
“A special congratulation should go to Jamie Excell who not only performed the lead, but also scored a try for the 1st XV (rugby) against Millfield in the afternoon of the final performance. A true Sherborne boy!”
