Electronics

This is a small but happy and thriving department that provides all 3rd form boys with an insight into how developments in Electronics have led to massive growth in the fields of automatic control, telecommunications and information management. Option groups are available for GCSE, AS and A2 level. Sets tend to be small but enthusiastic and this enables students to progress at a pace that is appropriate for them. The subject appeals to students who enjoy logical problem solving and the course involves a great deal of hands-on work, together with a degree of reasoning. Project boards are used extensively for a large variety of investigations and applications, so very little soldering is involved. Systems are also tested using various levels of computer simulation. The GCSE course is modular and one or two modules are taken at the end of the 4th form as appropriate for each individual student. Students develop confidence and self-reliance so that a design/build/test/adapt project becomes an enjoyable part of the assessment at each level. Results have always been outstanding.
