IB Diploma: Overview

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme has been offered at Sherborne School since 2007. Delivered in conjunction with Sherborne Girls, the Diploma Programme provides an alternative to A Level study in the Sixth Form. The Diploma Programme seeks to develop a student's personal and intellectual abilities through experiential learning and the promotion of global awareness.

The Diploma Programme was conceived to fulfil the International Baccalaureate's mission statement:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The aims of the International Baccalaureate are embodied in the Learner Profile, a list of ten characteristics that should define all Diploma students:

Balanced
Communicators
Knowledgeable
Principled
Risk-takers

Caring
Inquirers
Open-minded
Reflective
Thinkers

The aim of this site is to provide information about all aspects of the Diploma Programme at Sherborne School.
