Why Sherborne?
Ten good reasons to send your son to Sherborne
- The School is set in the heart of a peaceful but thriving country town. It thus provides a secure environment, sheltered from the more aggressive pressures of modern life, yet avoids the introspection of a campus school.
- Sherborne is a very rare school in that it offers all the advantages of single-sex education combined with the best aspects of co-education, obtained through close, daily contact with Sherborne School for Girls and Leweston School.
- Academically, the School averages the best examination results of any boys' school in the West of England. A Level pass rates, for example, have averaged 98% in recent years.
- We believe that every boy has the right to feel safe, happy and valued as an individual. The School gives the highest priority to pastoral care and has developed a supportive House system, in which resident staff provide guidance and encouragement for the boys in their charge. There is also a well developed tutorial system.
- Sherborne is still a boarding school which provides a rich and varied life for its pupils seven days a week. A huge range of activities is on offer to fill evenings and weekends constructively and enjoyably.
- Sherborne is an outward looking school which focuses on its pupils' future lives. The Careers Department is not an afterthought - it is a superbly equipped, purpose-built resource centre, manned by specially trained staff and open to boys and their parents every day in term time.
- Creative activities enjoy high status at Sherborne, and everyone is encouraged to take part. There are numerous music groups, many of which tour abroad; around a dozen different drama productions are staged each year, and the dynamic Art Department has a formidable record of entries to the most competitive art colleges.
- There is a long tradition of sporting excellence at Sherborne. Facilities and coaching are outstanding, and boys of all abilities enjoy sport at an appropriate level. For the most talented, the possibilities are limitless: many pupils play at county - and some at national - level.
- Boys have been educated at Sherborne for twelve centuries. Firmly embedded in its religious foundation and long history, the School gives boys a lifelong anchor in a world of fluctuating values. We believe that integrity and decency are the hallmarks of a Shirburnian.
- Despite being surrounded by unspoilt countryside, Sherborne is very well connected. A direct mainline service from Waterloo, and the dual carriageway M3-A303, bring the town within two hours' travelling time of London, the Home Counties and Heathrow Airport.
