Sherborne Choral and Organ Scholars

Each year, the School, the Abbey and Sherborne Prep School seek to appoint a number of gap-year students in September to the posts of Choral Scholars in the Abbey Choir, the School Chapel Choir, and Departmental Assistants at both of the schools. The appointments run from the beginning of September until the Sunday after school term ends in the summer (usually around 15th July) and includes Christmas and Easter.

The work involves singing or playing at the four services each week (a mid-week Evensong and a Sunday service the school, and a Eucharist and Sunday Evensong for the Abbey) in addition to their associated rehearsals. Choral and Organ Scholars are expected to be good sight-readers, as the repertoire of both choirs is wide and varied: in both cases rehearsal time is limited. Involvement in the life of the school, including coaching chamber music and singing, is potentially extensive.
