2. GCE AS Product Design

At Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level the students experience working in a fixed context as a designer might when bidding for a contract or entering a competition. The students are invited to consider the broad and highly creative field of lighting. They are encouraged to incorporate metal cast component as an element of their ideas which they need to design and construct a mould for. This process introduces the concept of design modification and compromise when working with demanding manufacturing processes. As you can see from the photos the students have found that working to a brief can actually enable them to focus on the aesthetical appeal of the product.
