Jack Sutcliffe is the youngest OS to climb Everest

"Jack Sutcliffe, who left School House in 2006, became the second youngest Briton ever at twenty years old to reach the summit of Mount Everest at 4.30 am on May 24, 2009. In itself, this is an amazing achievement and a tribute to Jack’s well-known determination and ambition since he did tell his Housemaster, Peter Watts, while still at Sherborne that he would one day climb Everest. However, the nature and scale of his feat only really becomes clearer when more of the detail is known and the attached account, written by Jack with frost-bitten fingers at Base Camp, is an extraordinary description of what he went through in order to achieve his goal. He even ends his story by saying ‘Bring on the Channel next year!’

Boys Research lives of local war heroes
