C Day Lewis Society Patron dies

The School has been saddened to hear the news of the death of Jill Balcon, widow of former pupil Cecil Day-Lewis and patron of the School's Cecil Day-Lewis Society. 

A tribute to Jill appeared in last Sunday's Observer Review section by Cecil's biographer Peter Stanford, and the final paragraph reads thus;

"It is Jill's voice that I will remember.  The impact I saw it have only last year when we performed together for a group of sixth formers at Sherborne School, will, for me and I suspect them, live on as the benchmark of how the poetic canon should be recited."
