Patrick Shelley Music Competition 2011
The fifth annual Patrick Shelley Music Competition for Advanced Instrumentalists was won by Theodore Irvine for his outstanding performance of two of Gershwin’s Preludes on the piano. Adjudicator Rod Dunk praised Theodore’s playing in describing it as “music which really took me somewhere and which spoke of clear musical vision resulting in a very mature interpretation.†Performing on the Music School’s newest grand piano, now just one year old, Theodore’s use of tonal colour, and his ability to make the instrument “singâ€, was also praised.
