The fifth annual Patrick Shelley Music Competition for Advanced Instrumentalists was won by Theodore Irvine for his outstanding performance of two of Gershwinâ€™s Preludes on the piano. Adjudicator Rod Dunk praised Theodoreâ€™s playing in describing it as â€œmusic which really took me somewhere and which spoke of clear musical vision resulting in a very mature interpretation.â€ Performing on the Music Schoolâ€™s newest grand piano, now just one year old, Theodoreâ€™s use of tonal colour, and his ability to make the instrument â€œsingâ€, was also praised.
