Sixth Form A Level Musicians visit Ronnie Scott's

The Sixth Form A Level musicians recently visited Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in Soho to hear “The Music of Charlie Parker with Gilad Atzmon” on soprano, alto and tenor saxophone accompanied by drums, bass and string quartet. The evening was particularly relevant to the OCR jazz course with its current Charlie Parker set work Ko-ko.

Philip Fowke: Tindall Recital Series

Philip Fowke gave the second Tindall Recital of this year’s series on Friday 24th February in the Music School at Sherborne School. Known for his many BBC Promenade Concert appearances, numerous recordings and broad range of repertoire, Philip Fowke is currently Senior Fellow of Keyboard at Trinity College of Music and appears in many of the major concert halls worldwide.

The annual Halliday Music Cup competition for pianos, singers and organists took place on Sunday 26th February. The adjudicator was Roderick Swanston - a freelance lecturer, writer, music historian, critic, lecturer and broadcaster.

Wind Band Concert

The Wind Band, following performances in Portsmouth at Gunwharf Quays and at the Welsh Millenium Centre in Cardiff, gave a concert in the Big Schoolroom on Friday 2nd March. This was the first occasion, for over five years, that the Wind Band has given a full concert on home ground.

History visit to Auschwitz

As part of a project organised by the Holocaust Education Trust, Robin Brinkworth (L6m) and Hassan Rashed (L6d) joined students from schools across the South West on a one day visit to Auschwitz/Birkenau Concentration Camp. This was an excellent opportunity to look at one of the darkest moments in human history and to examine it from an historical and moral perspective.
