Sherborne School's fourth annual Lower Sixth Geography trip to Manchester took place between the 24th and 26th October. Twenty-five intrepid students and four staff headed north for a mixture of physical and human exploration.

1st XV vs Prior Park School Monday 5th November

The opportunity to play at Bath’s Recreation ground as a curtain raiser before their A league game against Harlequins was always going to be a great way to start the second half of what to date, has been a very difficult season for the 1st XV. With several players returning from injury, the 1st XV squad supported by seven of this season’s successful Colts team made the short trip to Bath in preparation for the fixture against Prior Park School.

Sherborne's Debating Success
Both Junior and Senior debating teams enjoyed success this week at a debating evening with Bryanston and Blandford schools: There were 12 debates in total, 9 chairs/judges and 5 prizes for outstanding speakers. Credit should be given to all of the boys, especially as many were juggling several engagements in the same evening.

Two Sherborne boys are currently achieving highly at tennis: Henry Field (4c) and Peter Lederman (4a) have brought much credit to themselves and Sherborne recently winning seven rankings titles between them so far this year.

Chamber Choir at Salisbury Cathedral
The Sherborne School Chamber Choir sang Choral Evensong in Salisbury Cathedral on Friday 19th October. The Responses were by Richard Marlow, the psalms (98 & 99) sung to Plainsong, and the Canticles by William Byrd in the Second Service. Byrd's Ave verum was the anthem and the concluding organ voluntary, played by Organ Scholar Sandy May, was Vierne's Carillon de Westminster.

The Sherborne Sessions
Sherborne School held its first Literary Festival over the weekend of 18 – 21 October. Some of the country's most prominent writers came to Sherborne to share the secrets of their craft with audiences of boys, alongside students from The Gryphon, Leweston and Sherborne Girls. The event was launched by former pupil James Daunt, founder of Daunt Books and now MD of Waterstones.

The Sherborne Sessions 18-21 October
Sherborne's very own festival, The Sherborne Sessions, dedicated to celebrating the best in writing, will be resident in School for just over three days. Novelists, film-makers, comedians, musicians, poets and journalists will be sharing insights and tricks with audiences made up of students from the Sherborne Schools (including Sherborne Girls, Leweston and The Gryphon). James Daunt, Old Shirburnian and MD of Waterstones, will be launching the festival and a pop-up bookshop will run throughout the weekend.
