Sherborne - An Education For Life

Rugby

Rugby is the major sport of the Michaelmas term with 19 teams playing a very competitive fixture list throughout the south of England. There are 5 senior teams and 4 Colts teams with 5 teams each in the 3rd and 4th years. This gives all the boys with an interest in rugby the opportunity to represent the School
On a regular basis boys go on to represent the County or Division and beyond. In addition, the School enjoys close links with Bath Academy with whom the elite players regularly train. Varied and progressive training programmes, including strength and conditioning, are available and recommended for boys throughout the year.

Pre-season training takes place in the last week of the summer holidays with a camp at Bath University, where the full England squad train. There are regular biennial tours to a variety of destinations with the senior squad touring South Africa in 2008.

The Under 15 age group enters the Daily Mail competition (having recently made the final at Twickenham) and the 1st XV is invited to the annual National Schools Festival competition in October.

Rugby Sevens is played by all age groups during the Lent term and each age group will enter competitions, the highlight being the National 7's Tournament as Rosslyn Park in March.
