Tennis
The majority of tennis is played in the Trinity term, in which we run school teams in all age groups. Each team can expect to have fixtures against other schools each week. The fixture list is strong, as we play many of our familiar sporting rivals, such as Millfield, Marlborough, Bryanston, Canford and King’s Taunton. At present, we have 15 courts, including 3 well kept grass courts and 7 new astro courts. Entry is made in to the main national tournaments, namely the Glanvill Cup at senior level and the Dorset league at junior level. We aim to take a small group of players on tour at least every two years. Recently, we have travelled to Barcelona, Frankfurt and the English Riviera.
We have a resident professional coach, who provides individual and group sessions all year round and takes players to rating tournaments on Sundays. Tennis scholars and team players are strongly encouraged take full advantage of this service.
Thanks to a talented crop of young players, this sport is enjoying a period of considerable success at the moment. Last summer the 1st VI fought through to the third round of the Glanvill Cup and only lost to Millfield in their school matches. Other years groups were equally successful with two thirds of matches being won.
