Strategic Aims

Core Vision

The Sherborne community is a full boys' boarding school committed to providing an education, based on Christian values, that enriches boys' lives, develops their character, confidence and capacity to learn, and prepares them for the complex challenges and opportunities of modern adult life in an ever changing world. We want our boys to become men of distinction, with a strong sense of identity, integrity and purpose built on the values of leadership and service.

This involves a commitment to:

• Promoting boys' intellectual growth and confidence by continuously cultivating the habits of mind essential for lifelong independent learning and thinking.

• Providing a system of pastoral education that nurtures boys' physical and spiritual health, emotional, moral and social maturity and an awareness and appreciation of their relationships and responsibilities in the wider world.

• Fostering a deeply held respect for the needs of others, for the importance of co-operation and collaboration, and for the responsibilities associated with living in any community.

• Encouraging self-confidence, self-reliance and resourcefulness, integrity and personal responsibility, resilience and perseverance, reflection and self-awareness, open-mindedness and empathy, leadership and service, ambition and the quest for meaning and purpose.

• Challenging and enabling all boys to develop interests, passions, skills and personal qualities that will last a lifetime, through offering a co-curricular programme that reflects and extends the boys' learning in the classroom and beyond and that provides further opportunities to excel.

To help achieve these objectives:

• The Governors will provide an active, supportive and guiding presence in the school.

• The School will actively encourage and support the professional and career development of all staff and fulfil its pastoral responsibility to each staff member.

• The Governors and the Bursary will ensure that the school's resources are properly focussed on its academic, pastoral and co-curricular targets and on funding for the school's development programme.

• The External Relations Department will aim to ensure that the school and its public image is positively, accurately and energetically promoted (to prospective and current parents, to old boys and to the wider world) and that its growth and development are actively supported.
