Public Benefit

For many years Sherborne School has wished to play its part in the local community and to enable as many boys as possible to enjoy a Sherborne education even when parents find the costs prohibitive.

We like to share our facilities with the town and with local Schools; we maintain close contacts with local Schools (both maintained and independent) and build upon those year by year; we have many links with the Community through the Arts, through voluntary service and via the work of individuals and groups.

By educating 598 children we save the public purse an estimated £3M per year. As a matter of policy we continue to widen access wherever possible. In 2010-11 we provided financial help to over 200 pupils to the value of over £1.6M. There were seven substantial bursaries (between 90% and 100%) funded by the School. These are widely advertised. In addition seven pupils received means-tested bursaries from the Old Shirburnian Society.
