Public Benefit
For many years Sherborne School has wished to play its part in the local community and to enable as many boys as possible to enjoy a Sherborne education even when parents find the costs prohibitive.
We like to share our facilities with the town and with local Schools; we maintain close contacts with local Schools (both maintained and independent) and build upon those year by year; we have many links with the Community through the Arts, through voluntary service and via the work of individuals and groups.
By educating 570+ children we save the public purse an estimated £2.88M per year. As a matter of policy we continue to widen access wherever possible. In 2008-9 we provided financial help to c. 200 pupils at a cost of over £1M. There were seven substantial bursaries (between 90% and 100%) funded by the School. These are widely advertised. In addition six pupils received means-tested bursaries from the Old Shirburnian Society and one pupil received a bursary from The Sherborne Foundation, our fund-raising arm.
