Cricket
Cricket is the major sport in the summer term. Sherborne has sixteen cricket teams across all the age groups and ability levels in the school.
The fixture list is very competitive and we play all the best schools in the West of England. The facilities at Sherborne are some of the best in the West. There are seven pitches used for matches on Saturdays and some Thursdays. There are twelve new all weather nets and fourteen good quality grass nets for practice. We have recently invested in six new bowling machines for intensive quality batting practice during the season and during the winter in the indoor facilities.
The coaching is coordinated by Alan Willows, ex Sussex CCC and now Head Coach of Dorset CCC. He will work with all the elite players, at each age group, on a one to one basis throughout the year. He is very well supported by an experienced number of coaches at all levels, a number of whom have played first class cricket. Sherborne has excellent links with Hampshire, Somerset, and Dorset County Cricket Academies.
Cricket has been the most successful sport at Sherborne over the last few years with recognition at National level when the 1st XI lost narrowly to Dulwich College in the National Schools Twenty/20 final in 2007.
Sherborne are taking a Development U16 team on tour to India at Easter 2008, and is planning an U18 tour to Australia at Christmas 2009, having toured Sri Lanka and South Africa in recent years.
