Rugby Fives is a game that is fast, fun and great for fitness, and can be enjoyed by players of all standards. If you have never played Fives then Sherborne is the ideal place to have a go; we are fortunate to have five courts, all in excellent condition. Every new boy has the opportunity to play Fives during his first term as part of the activities carousel.
Fives is played in both the singles and the doubles formats on a four-sided court. Players wear leather padded gloves on both hands, with which they hit the ball, aiming to strike above the bar running across the front wall, so that the opposition cannot return it before the second bounce. A Fives ball is slightly larger than a golf ball, leather-covered and hard.
Here at Sherborne we play in the Michaelmas and Lent term with coaching on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, and the courts are always available for playing outside these times. In the Lent term, teams of various ages will play matches against other schools and old boys' teams. We also host two national schools' championships each year.
