Squash

Squash is an exhilarating racket sport and when you're playing a great match you can get a huge adrenaline buzz. Because squash is so fast paced; unlike some sports it seems like it never stops as the ball is never far away and you never seem to have an excuse for a break (mainly because of the enclosed court area).

Squash has recently been voted the top healthiest sport in an influential sporting magazine, and is thus a great way for boys of all ages to enjoy a competitive and physically challenging game.

It can be fitted around other sports and the main benefit is that a thirty minute workout on a squash court can burn over 500 calories and be fantastic fun at the same time. It improves cardio-respiratory endurance, muscle strength and flexibility, all of which are essential in other sports.

The courts are available between 2 – 6pm during the week and again 9- 9.45pm Monday to Thursday throughout the year. There are coaching sessions every Tuesday and Thursday in both the Michaelmas and Lent Terms, with matches against other schools taking place during these two terms. Additional private coaching is available on Sunday afternoons and evenings, which have to be booked in advance with either Gary Shackle, the Head of Squash or Tom Pollard, one of the coaches.
