Squash

The number of young boys at Sherborne, keen to learn and play competitively for the school has grown in recent years. With a colts team now in operation, there is even more chance for the younger school boy to improve his skills at an early stage. There are coaching sessions every Tuesday and Thursday in both the Michaelmas and Lent Terms, with matches against other schools taking place during these two terms. Additional private coaching is available on Sunday afternoons and evenings, which should be booked in advance through Gary Shackle, the Head of Squash or Tom Pollard, one of the coaches.

The senior squad consists of 5-10 players, who in the 2010-11 season played a total of 15 fixtures. These included matches in the U19 Schools National Tournament, the prestigious UK Schools Tournament at Roehampton, London and against OS players (including The Jesters & Pilgrims).

The courts are available between 2 - 6pm (Monday - Friday), 9- 9.45pm (Monday to Thursday) and at weekends throughout the year. The beauty of squash for most school boys is that it is a game that can be fitted in around other sports fixtures or practices. The Sherborne boy is always very busy, but a thirty minute workout on a squash court can improve cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility and more importantly be a fun way of getting fitter, playing with school friends.
