A Sherborne education lasts a lifetime. It forms boys with habits, interests and enthusiasms that stay with them long into the future, shaping their lives and giving them resources to call on in good times and bad.

Our approach to Sport bears this philosophy out. While we are well equipped to bring out the very best in elite sportsmen, and number many brilliant performers in our community, we are just as committed to the participation of every single boy at School.

For us, Sport is a success if a boy finds an activity that he enjoys and will stick with once he leaves School. We want to form habits of healthy living; shaping a commitment to regular exercise because we recognise its importance to both physical and mental wellbeing.

We offer a carousel of Sport for third formers to enjoy, giving them a huge variety of options right from the start of their time at Sherborne. The options include traditional sports like rugby, football, cricket and hockey, as well as activities like squash, fives, clay pigeon shooting and golf.

The diversity of sporting activities taking place on a daily basis in our community is testament to the success of this strategy. As it happens, it also yields very positive results.

Our teams enjoy regular success in competitive fixtures, and we are proud to have some of the country’s best athletes in our midst. We provide the opportunities for them to make the most of their talent, while celebrating the sporting achievements of everyone.

That way, Sport at Sherborne becomes something that everyone can revel in – not just now, but for many years to come.

A note from our Director of Sport...

The Michaelmas Term 2022, started with the opening of our new Sports Hall and Climbing Centre. A short time later the pool re-opened after having a major facelift and not long after the fitness suite returned after a temporary re-location. As expected, the boys are making fantastic use of the new facilities and are looking forward to 2023 when we will have full use of the second phase including the new squash courts, performance gym, studios and golf simulator. We are very grateful for the support of all involved in the project and watch eagerly as the new building takes shape.
