New Boarding House at Sherborne

It’s an exciting time for Sherborne School as today we announce the addition of a ninth boarding House to our boarding provision. In response to very high levels of demand for places, Westcott House will provide places for 65 new boarders. The additional boarding places will enable us to better serve the needs of our boys and ensure the School’s continued, long-term success.

Westcott House was a Sherborne School boarding house until 1999 and will re-open in September 2021, following an extensive refurbishment to create the very best environment for boarding.

Headmaster, Dr Dominic Luckett, comments:

We are very pleased that demand for the outstanding boarding education on offer at Sherborne is so buoyant and are looking forward to this new development. Although the addition of Westcott House will eventually lead to an increase in the size of the School, we remain committed to keeping pupil numbers to an absolute maximum of 650 in order to preserve the close, supportive community that makes our School so special.

Located just a few minutes’ walk from the main site and close to The Upper playing fields, Westcott House first opened as a boarding house for Sherborne School in 1920 and has several famous alumni to its name, including mathematician Alan Turing, novelist David Cornwell (John Le Carré) and architect Sir Michael Hopkins.

We are thrilled to begin the process of restoring Westcott to its rightful place within Sherborne School’s boarding community.
