RFA Colquhoun Fives Tournament
On Sunday 2nd December, Sherborne hosted the Colquhoun Fives tournament. All teams played exceptionally well. William Barker (U6m) was playing in his first tournament in the senior Open category and although the opposition were strong, he dug deep and made his opponents work for their victories. He lost the plate final but again displayed great determination in his final game of the day.
Harry Harvey (L6b) came second in his group in the open competition; after a tight but successful game against Blundell’s and then a heavy defeat to a very strong player from Marlborough. Coming second meant he made it through to the main knockout competition and by lunchtime he had got through to the final where he faced Marlborough once again. Post lunch Harry had a chance for a break and gave a more convincing performance, losing in a closer contest than earlier on in the competition.
The next game was a very close contest and despite losing 4-11, it was his best game of the day and there were some super rallies. Harry’s work on his short game over the term really showed and he kept hopes alive to the end as a result. He deserved to come second overall in the Open competition and will be back next year determined to do one better!
