As the flagship sport in the Michaelmas term, there are plenty of playing opportunities for pupils of all abilities, with up to 18 teams competing, from the U14E Touch Rugby team to the 1st XV.

We have a principle-based programme that allows all players to be challenged, explore, and then excel with their rugby, whilst ensuring an enjoyable environment which promotes a lifelong love of rugby:

Play to Space

Speed of Ball

Nothing Through

Get the Ball Back

The School’s Director of Rugby, Mr Chris Smith (RFU Level 4), leads the programme and is supported by the Director of Rugby Coaching, Mr Jack Howden (RFU Level 3). They oversee several experienced and well qualified coaches to ensure there is support for every boy to reach their full potential.

We currently have over 25 boys involved in representative Professional Academies. Recent leavers have gone on to receive professional playing opportunities with Bath Rugby, Exeter Chiefs and Ulster Rugby, as well as representing top rugby playing universities such as Durham, Exeter, Bath and Oxford.

We have regular fixtures with the likes of Radley, Marlborough, Millfield and Cheltenham. Internally, we have an annual House rugby competition as well as regular overseas tours to destinations such as South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
