There are a number of shooting programmes available to our boys, including both Clay Shooting and Target/Range Shooting.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Clay Pigeon Shooting is a popular Thursday afternoon activity available to students of all ages and abilities throughout the year. Coaching takes place at Mendip Shooting Ground near Wells, where students have the opportunity to experience a variety of sporting layouts that cater to different skill levels. The sessions not only focus on improving shooting technique but also on developing the teamwork essential for competitive success.

Over the past year, we have taken part in a range of inter-school competitions hosted by Millfield School (at Mendip Shooting Ground), Marlborough College (at Barbury Shooting School), Harrow School (at E.J. Churchill Shooting Ground), and Cheltenham College (at Ian Coley Shooting Ground). In addition to these events, we regularly organise friendly fixtures with Millfield, Blundell’s, Milton Abbey, and Stover School.

We look forward to continuing to compete with a diverse range of schools and further developing our students’ skills and sporting camaraderie.

Target/Range Shooting

Target Shooting takes place on several afternoons each week at the School’s own indoor 25m range. Our experienced coaches ensure that boys are given tailored guidance to help them progress in confidence and competence, whatever their level of experience and ambition in the sport: whether a boy’s aim is simply to learn to shoot safely and accurately, or to master the ins and outs of sling supports, sighting adjustments, and participating in team competitions, Sherborne’s indoor .22 rifle shooting programme will provide a safe and supportive environment for his development. For those who aspire to represent Sherborne in competition, fixtures in which boys can participate include shoots against other schools, and larger competitions at the Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley.
