Sherborne invites talented and enthusiastic boys to apply for up to two of the scholarships and other awards that are available. We offer a range of awards from academic and creative to musical and sporting. In return for demonstrating high levels of commitment in their chosen discipline(s), award holders are given many opportunities to stretch themselves beyond the curriculum with additional tutoring, coaching, lectures, societies and social activities.
Scholarships and awards are available to candidates entering the School at 13+ (Third Form) in the following areas:
- Academic scholarship
- Art awards
- Drama awards
- Design and Technology awards
- Music scholarships
- Sport awards
All boys wishing to be considered for an award must complete a Scholarship application form, available through the Admissions Department. This form must be returned to the Admissions Department by 31 December 2017 for boys entering the School in 2018. Boys wishing to be considered for any award must have already satisfied the School’s academic entry standards.
An All-Rounder award may be given to a boy who falls short of an award in one specific area but who nonetheless demonstrates high levels of talent, ability and dedication based on his performance in the scholarship and award assessment, interview and the reference from his current school. It is not possible to make a specific application for All-Rounder awards, which are determined at the discretion of the Headmaster.
Sherborne is able to offer a number of scholarships to pupils for Sixth Form entry. These will be awarded to candidates showing particular academic proficiency and promise. As a guide to candidates considering the Scholarship, we would expect them to have GCSE predictions including six of more A* or A grades.
These assessments will be held in November and will include online cognitive tests, an Academic interview and two subject based interviews based on your son’s chosen A level subjects.
Sports Award (Walford Award)
A number of awards are available for boys demonstrating outstanding ability in their chosen sport or sports.
Prospective candidates may contact David Guy, Director of Sport for further information. dguy@, T: 01935 812249. sherborne.org
Music Scholarships and Exhibitions
Music scholarships and exhibitions are available on entry into the Sixth Form offering an exciting oppurtunity to boys to make a wide ranging contribution to the busy musical life of the School as well as developing their own individual musical ability.
Boys who win an award are eligible to apply for means-tested bursaries over and above the value of their award.
