Even when life is at its busiest, we believe it is important to give boys the chance to have fun, just for the sake of it.
A full social programme is on offer but we also allow for boys who want to spend some quiet time by themselves, or in small groups, giving them opportunities simply to relax.
For those who do want to socialise with others, we offer activities on most Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. These vary dramatically, and include events like barbecues, pizza and movie evenings, a bonfire night celebration, discos and karaoke.
To make sure the activities are appropriate for a boy’s age, we tend to separate them into year groups. We also ask boys to sit on the social committee, along with pupils from Sherborne Girls where appropriate, so that they can steer the activities provided for their enjoyment.
At root, the social programme is geared at helping our boys relax and switch off. It sits alongside our sports and outdoor activities, and includes trips and outings, as well as skills-based activities like cookery and photography.
We regularly get together with other local schools, so that our boys are accustomed to mixing outside their normal circle of friends, and have regular contact with girls in their age group. The result, we hope, is that the boys become comfortable in a variety of social settings and learn to value the company of others.
