Our Symphony Orchestra is organised in partnership with Sherborne Girls, Leweston and The Gryphon School. It provides boys with a chance to perform in a large orchestra, and entry is by audition at the start of each academic year. Entrants usually need to have achieved a minimum of Grade Seven to apply.
The Sinfonia is another joint endeavour with our local schools, and rehearses at Sherborne Girls. It performs two concerts each year, and most members end up progressing to the Symphony Orchestra once they have attained a high enough standard.
The Chamber Orchestra meets for a weekly rehearsal during Q Time on Monday, and performs two concerts per year. Entry is by invited audition.
Each summer, boys in the Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia and the Chamber Orchestra join forces to form the Sherborne School Concert Orchestra. This rehearses once a week and performs in the annual Gala Concert during Commemoration in early July. In some years, it follows this with an international tour, giving boys a valuable experience of performing in a different culture.
