School House Strictly

In the last week of term School House put on their very own Strictly Come Dancing fundraising event in aid of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and St David’s Hospice. These charities are very close to the hearts of two School House boys and their families. Joining forces with Sherborne Girls eight couples performed to a packed audience in the Powell Theatre and produced an incredible evening of entertainment. One of School House's Sixth Form boys reviews the action below:

"When Tom Perkins proposed the idea, having eyed-up the sparkling trophy in Mr Jackson’s study, some of us Upper Sixth were a bit sceptical about the thought of ballroom dancing in front of such an audience. However, although there was some cause for concern, such as a lack of a dance teacher, the event went ahead nonetheless. This was mainly thanks to Mr Pardoe who agreed to coach us the Cha Cha Cha and Foxtrot and who, unknown to us, is a British Junior National Ballroom Finalist.   For the dancers, I would say that Strictly has benefitted us by being able to entertain an audience member or two while raising money for two incredible charities very close to our House. Perhaps most importantly, all of us can now consider ourselves as ‘able to dance’. Both The Upper Sixth and the Lower Sixth, and our friends from Sherborne Girls, have been able to take this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step outside of our comfort zones thanks to this event."

With the help of all those involved and the generous donations from those who were able to attend the evening and even from those who were not, we have been able to generate over £3,600 for The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and for St David’s Hospice, and for this reason School House Strictly has been an unprecedented success.
