The Steuart Pringle (OS) Trophy is largely seen as one of the most physically demanding and mentally challenging events young people can take part in. The Royal Marine Cadet team sent to the Commando Training Centre near Lympston, Devon contained a mix of boys from Sherborne School and Sherborne Girls. They were largely inexperienced but full of enthusiasm. Under the outstanding leadership of Luca M (U6 f) the team of nine cadets set off on Friday afternoon for what would turn out to be an incredible three days.

On arrival the team were housed in the drill shed along with the other 18 teams from around the country. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday the team had to undertake 12 different stances, testing their military skills and physical fitness and determination. One of the most challenging things about the Pringle Trophy is dealing with the intensity of the competition.

The team came third overall and were the first placed mixed team. Highlights include coming top in the ‘stalk’ and ‘first aid’ stances. They also performed well on the more physical challenges such as the ‘stretcher race’ and ‘endurance course’. The team have experienced cold, mental and physical fatigue, comradery and everything in between.  Special thanks go to Will Mackenzie, Heather Dixon and Josie Richards (first aid) for delivering the 4-month training programme and to Paul Wilson for dealing with the myriad of logistics to make it all happen.
