Sherborne Boys’ Upper Sixth Form leavers have once again demonstrated their academic calibre, achieving an excellent set of A Level results.
This year nearly a third of grades awarded were A*/A, with one in six achieving straight A*/A grades. We were also particularly pleased that all six boys holding offers from Oxford or Cambridge went on either to meet or exceed their offers, including those requiring multiple A*s. They also counted amongst the 1 in 6 of pupils achieving one or more A* grades. Six boys also managed to secure A Level results in four subjects, whilst others broadened their excellent results with EPQs, Core Maths AS or an international diploma in European languages.
Our BTEC results were also impressive, with every pupil finishing with at least a merit overall. More impressively, 9 out of 10 results were graded distinction or distinction star (the equivalent of A or A* at A Level).
Overall, the vast majority of leavers have secured places at their first-choice universities. Destinations vary but this year feature many top universities, including: Newcastle, Durham, Imperial, Bristol, Exeter and other Russell Group destinations. A small number of pupils are also leaving us to study abroad, including prestigious institutions from the Ivy League, USA.
Every year our boys’ chosen courses reflect the broad spectrum of their academic ambitions. This year Business, Economics and Engineering are recurring choices, though Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Computer Science, Politics and International Relations and Biomedical sciences have also proven popular. As with previous years, we also have pupils electing to pursue competitive courses at music and art schools or applying for degree apprenticeships.
Commenting on the results, Headmaster Simon Heard said: "We are immensely proud of this hugely impressive leaving cohort and all they have achieved. These results are a testament to their hard work, determination, and the strength of our supportive community, including their dedicated teachers. Whether heading to university or exploring other opportunities, we wish them well as they leave Sherborne with the qualifications, confidence and character to thrive."
Sherborne Boys extends heartfelt thanks to their parents and all the staff who have guided and supported these pupils throughout their time at the School.
Congratulations also go to the Upper Sixth at Sherborne Girls, who are celebrating similarly impressive outcomes.
