Life in Illustration - Open Exhibition

A huge thank you to the Sherborne community and all who came to the Life in illustration Open Exhibition in the Oliver Holt Gallery, on 17 December. The Exhibition featured the original artworks by artist and illustrator, Elizabeth Watson. Elizabeth creates deliciously quirky illustrations using a dippy-nib pen and ink and watercolour, inspired by the humorous micro-qualities of everyday life. All her sketches are based upon the people she knows, the places she goes, and the things she’s seen. It’s always about the little things.

As quoted by Lizzie, "It was so very wonderful to see so many friends and family at my exhibition and even more delightful to see so many others who turned up to see my work. I have thoroughly loved listening to your thoughts, giggles and admiration for my work - it really is what it’s all about and I can’t thank you enough."

Lizzie will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from her exhibition to the charity Winston's Wish, which is close to her heart.

About Elizabeth

I’ve been making creative marks on paper since I could hold a crayon. Before I started using my signature-style dippy-nib pen and ink, alongside glorious shades of watercolour, I would mostly sketch with a very fine nib pen (a particularly specific one of which I had to have several because I’m prone to losing them) and I have been inspired by many artists - Quentin Blake particularly, but also Sue Lewington.

I studied fine art, illustration, and mixed media to A Level, before venturing into the world of Broadcasting, and have always had a love of life drawing, particularly people.

I grew up in dungarees and wellington boots with a lamb under each arm (on a farm in Buckinghamshire), spent 17 years in shorts and flip flops with a small child under each arm and a house full of visitors (near the Helford Passage in Cornwall), and now spend much of my time negotiating my professional life around my children’s busy diaries. I live in Sherborne, Dorset, with my three children, three cats, one snake, and a Springer Spaniel called Coco.

I am currently working full-time as the Marketing Officer for Sherborne Prep School but a sketchbook to capture colours, notes, and moments, still features prominently in my handbag.
