Ten Tors Challenge 2022

After a two-year hiatus, Ten Tors finally returned to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Many of the boys competing in the Lower Sixth had trained for the event in the Fourth Form - only to have it cancelled by - you know what. However, Ten Tors 2022 will not only live in the memory for being a post-COVID event  - it was historic for other reasons - for the first time in our history Ten Tors became a joint school event!

The phrase 'Separate yet Together' has a new resonance in outdoor education – Sherborne Girls have joined us for CCF, DofE, and Ten Tors which has provided a fantastic opportunity to see Shirburnians develop friendships outside the Saturday night social rotation. Unprecedented demand allowed us to enter a record number of Ten Tors teams - three completed the 35-mile challenge (two from Sherborne School and one from Sherborne Girls) - and one mixed team entered the 45-mile challenge.

Weather conditions during training were challenging - with students experiencing floods, storms, snow and high winds. None of this prepared them for the glorious sunshine and clear blue skies that arrived in time for the event itself. This year was unusual for having a high number of teams drop out during the event - perhaps due to the Covid enforced absence of outdoor education - but not for the Sherborne Teams who all completed the event in good time and in great spirit.
