The CCF had a busy end to term. A number of cadets visited the Tower of London which they thoroughly enjoyed. However, the real highlight of the term was our Field Trip. The Royal Navy section were flown in a Merlin helicopter by a pilot from 845 Naval Air Squadron, flying over Sherborne as well as Glastonbury Tor and other local landmarks.

Our Army and Royal Marines cadets were superbly hosted by the Rifles at Beachley barracks in Chepstow where they engaged in battle PT, got their hands on various weaponry including a sniper rifle, fired in the DCCT (like a video game but using adapted weapons rather than a controller), and perhaps most surprisingly being served tea and toast in the Mess! The day culminated in a drill competition.

Our Fifth Form cadre course (which prepares cadets to lead training in the Sixth Form) had a day live firing on Straight Point Ranges near Exmouth. Our Sixth Form cadets instigated a parade to mark the forthcoming Coronation of King Charles III. Cadet RSM, WO1 William Waters (U6b) deserves praise for getting it off the ground. Later that evening, our Sixth Form cadets enjoyed the pomp and ceremony of the black-tie Annual Dinner Night which included a number of service personnel who have supported our CCF, including Lt Col Crispin d’Apice (g 96) who is an OS and Commanding Officer of 6 Rifles and helped arrange our trip to Chepstow.

With a nod towards the Coronation, our Guest of Honour was His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Dorset, Angus Campbell, who along with the Cadet RSM gave a fantastic speech. Next term promises to be equally busy with Iron Cadet, parachuting, field trips to Scraesdon Fort and HMS Raleigh, as well as a summer camp departing after Commem.
