Incredible hockey played by our Pilgrims

Sunday was an enthralling day of hockey that featured mind-blowing saves and incredible goal scoring from Sherborne players of every age. A tightly fought first game between the 1st XI and the Younger Pilgrims featured two outstanding saves by Rob Kennedy and a game-winning short corner in the last minute as the current School 1st XI ran out 3-2. This was swiftly followed by another nail-biter that saw five lead changes as the 2nd XI took on the Older Pilgrims. Despite going up 3-2 with only 7 minutes left on the clock, the Older Pilgrims couldn’t hold the lead as the School 2nd XI triumphed 4-3.

After a wonderful lunch provided by the Catering Department, the Younger Pilgrims (boosted by Dr Wadham) took on the Upper 6th in the mood for revenge. Racing out to a 4-0 lead, the School 6th Form couldn’t mount a comeback as the Younger Pilgrims moves the ball intelligently into space and scored two further goals in a well-deserved 6-0 victory. The final game of the day also featured the goal of the day, as an Older Pilgrim beat three defenders and then dived full length to flick the ball into the top corner. The Older Pilgrims again played with poise and intelligence in maintaining and building their lead, and rightly finished the game with two further goals to win 4-1.

Huge thanks go to all the returning Pilgrims, as well as the School players for providing such excellent opposition. We would also like to thank the Grounds and Catering Departments for providing such excellent facilities and vitals for all of the players.
